Duration: 10 weeks, one meeting per week
Location: UCLA campus, Room TBA
Instructor: Dave Johnson
Maximum Enrollment: 10 students
A successful screenwriting career is dependent on more than the writing alone.
Not only must a screenwriter develop the ability to sell their
projects to industry professionals, they must learn how to “pitch
themselves” to prospective employers. In this 10-week in-depth
workshop, students will explore all aspects of the pitching process,
from the conception of a “pitchable” idea, to pitching a “take” for a
rewrite assignment or book adaptation. Through lecture, class
discussion, examples, and guest speakers, you'll learn how to get
comfortable pitching your screenplays to producers, agencies, and
executives. Prepared students will have the opportunity to pitch
their projects to industry professionals at the end of the course.
Dave Johnson is a graduate of both the Professional Program in Screenwriting and the MFA Screenwriting Program at UCLA.
He is the recipient of the Jack Nicholson Award in Screenwriting and the Harmony Gold Award of Excellence.
Along with being a produced television writer, Dave has sold and developed feature films for Walt Disney Pictures,
20th Century Fox, Paramount, New Regency, and Universal Studios. In addition to "The Art of the Pitch," Dave teaches screenwriting workshops in both the Professional Program and the MFA program.
