It's the one thing nearly every screenwriter dreads: THE PITCH. But a successful career depends on more than the writing alone. Not only must a screenwriter develop the ability to sell their projects to industry professionals, they must learn how to “pitch themselves” to prospective employers. In this 10-week in-depth workshop, students will explore all aspects of the pitching process, from the conception of a “pitchable” idea, to pitching a “take” for a rewrite assignment or book adaptation. Through lectures, class discussion, examples, and guest speakers, you'll learn how to get comfortable pitching your screenplays to producers, agencies, and executives. Prepared students will have the opportunity to pitch their projects to industry professionals at the end of the course.

Along with being a produced television writer, Dave Johnson has sold pitches to various studios, including Paramount and 20th Century Fox. His project "Man Wedding" was sold as a pitch to New Regency in a multi-studio bidding war. He recently sold his comedy pitch "Repeat After Me" to Universal. Dave is a graduate of both the UCLA Professional Program in Screenwriting and the MFA Screenwriting Program.
