Professional Program in Producing - Summer 2014
Join us in June!
The perfect alternative to a graduate degree program, the Professional Program in Producing provides an intensive overview of the contemporary film and television industries, and introduces students to the tools needed to navigate the studio and independent marketplace. This graduate-level non-degree program is modeled after the MFA Producers Program at UCLA and has academic oversight by the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. Seminar-style lectures and Q/A sessions are presented by both regular UCLA faculty and distinguished industry professionals and their guests. Upon successfully finishing the program, students receive a certificate of completion.
The Professional Program in Producing consists of a series of lectures, discussions, and appearances by entertainment industry guests. Areas of discussion range from pitching to story development to budgeting/scheduling to marketing/distribution, and more. Students attend classes four nights per week for ten consecutive weeks. Classes take place Monday through Thursday nights, from 7pm-10pm.
The following topics are typically covered in the Professional Program in Producing. Because our instructors are working entertainment industry professionals with numerous ongoing film and television projects, the schedule is always subject to change:
Creative Producing/Feature Film Preparation, Feature Film Financing, Feature Film Development, Story/Pitching, Contracts/Negotiations, Clearance/Copyright, Legal Issues for Independent Film, Television Development, Feature Film Marketing, Television Marketing, Alternative Programming, Theatrical Distribution (Domestic and International), Budgeting, The Television Executive Alternative Distribution, The Writer/Producer Partnership, Career Strategizing, Producing/Directing for TV, Documentary Filmmaking, Design, Post-Production, Producing for Video Games, Producing for the Web.
Why the Professional Program in Producing?
For those who do not want to spend two years or more in a degree program, but who want something more substantial than an extension class, the UCLA Professional Program in Producing is a fantastic way to get a respected UCLA education and to acquire a vast amount of information about the entertainment business in a short period of time. Because enrollment is limited, students in the Professional Program are able to get to know each other quickly, and there is ample opportunity to network with like-minded, ambitious individuals with varied professional backgrounds. Many students in this program have formed partnerships and developed projects together.
