Advanced Workshops in Screenwriting

If you've successfully completed the year-long Professional Program in Screenwriting, you have the opportunity to enroll in our Advanced Workshops in Screenwriting. In an Advanced Workshop, students meet once per week for three hours to participate in an intensive round-table analysis of their work.

The Advanced Workshops, like the workshops in the Professional Program, are modeled after the MFA screenwriting program’s “434” screenwriting class. Designed by former MFA Screenwriting Chair Lew Hunter and current Co-Chair Richard Walter, Advanced Workshops are limited to no more than eight students per class and are led by professional screenwriters. In an Advanced Workshop, the goal is for each student to start and complete a feature-length original screenplay within the 10-week quarter. Rewrite Workshops are also offered from time to time, so that students may have the opportunity to revise a screenplay that they have already completed.

Advanced Workshops take place on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday night (the schedule varies by quarter; for this quarter's schedule, please see below). Students who successfully complete three Advanced Workshops receive a certificate of completion. Workshops do not have to be taken consecutively in order to receive the certificate.
